Born and raised in San Diego, California, I graduated with a BA in literature from the University of California, San Diego after spending most of my college years dabbling in travel and art, traipsing across Europe as a teenager and working on fine art photography and printmaking at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Upon graduating, I discovered that lucrative career opportunities for 20-year-old former literature students were few and far between, so I did what any sensible kid with mounting student loan debt would do: graduate school. My Master's in Library & Information Science earned me a dream job as Assistant Librarian for the San Diego Zoo, but starry-eyed romance brought me to Chicago in 2010.

Since then, I've been an in-house communications specialist for a health care research center at the University of Chicago. For my day job, I do writing and editing, print layout design, web design and front-end development, and a variety of other things.

Evenings and weekends are reserved for reading all the books, pursuing way too many hobbies, spending time out and about in this city that I've grown to love with the people who make me happy, and taking on small freelance projects.
