In this session design director Rebecca Gimenez will describe how the Whitney’s design team established a new role for itself within the museum using the period “between brands” as a laboratory for new ideas new working methods and a new emergent visual vocabulary—and how this research is informing the museum’s new visual identity.

Speaker bio

Rebecca Gimenez design director Whitney Museum of American Art joined the Whitney Museum in 2008 to create the museum’s first department of graphic design. In addition she is a founding member of the design collective We Have Photoshop and was a partner in W/--- Project Space located in New York's Lower East Side from 2008–2011. She has served as a visiting critic at Parsons the New School for Design Tisch ITP the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture and the Yale University School of Art. Her work has been recognized by AIGA the AAUP and the Type Director's Club. She holds an MFA from the Yale University School of Art.
