The global economy rests on a crumbling precipice. It’s based on unsustainable assumptions and business practices that are driving societies and ecosystems into successive collapses. There are many palliative “fixes” that can prop up the system but only for a time. What’s needed is a new economic paradigm one based on recognizing that the economy depends wholly on preserving healthy ecosystems and sustainable communities. If humanity is at the edge let’s explore that space. The Edge Economy is where we can begin to build a world that works for 100 percent of humanity.

Hunter Lovins is a world-recognized leader in helping companies and communities profit from more sustainable practices. In 2002 she co-founded Natural Capitalism Solutions a nonprofit dedicated to educating senior decision-makers in business government and society about the principles of sustainability. Lovins has authored and co-authored numerous books including The Way Out: Kick-starting Capitalism to Save our Economic Ass (2012) Natural Capitalism (2007) and Green Development: Integrating Ecology and Real Estate (1998) in addition to hundreds of papers and articles. She was named “Green Business Icon” by Newsweek in 2009 and a “Hero for the Planet” by Time magazine in 2000.
Lovins has more than 40 years of experience in business sustainability and change management. She was a founding professor of business at Presidio Graduate School one of the first accredited programs offering an M.B.A. in sustainable management. She has consulted for governments and the private sector and briefed senior management at Interface Mitsubishi Bank of America Royal Dutch/Shell Group and numerous utility companies.
Lovins is a professor of business at the Bainbridge Graduate Institute and Bard College and the chief insurgent of the Madrone Project an education initiative aimed at curating and producing modular flexible and rigorous micro-courses that complement today’s now-traditional sustainability programs.
