Your Day Job and Your Real Job

Filmed on October 18, 2016 at the 2016 AIGA Design Conference

For an in-house designer at an early stage start-up, “building the plane while flying it” isn’t just an idiom, but a daily mantra. Everett Katigbak will share his experiences during the early days at Facebook, Pinterest, and, currently, Stripe. He’ll also talk about galvanizing internal culture within a rapidly scaling organization through grassroots initiatives such as the Facebook Analog Research Laboratory and guerrilla side projects.

Everett Katigbak is a storyteller, designer, and strategist in the Bay Area who helps emerging companies develop their brands. He was on the original design team at Facebook, where he produced work that told personal, human stories of how the service helped to connect billions of people. He was also a co-founder of the Facebook Analog Research Laboratory; a rogue band of designers who challenged the company’s way of thinking and cultural values.
