On a daily basis, people interact with multiple organizations trying to improve their lives. Or perhaps even more simply, remove roadblocks that prevent them from achieving their full success. Often, people find themselves turning to the U.S. government at their greatest time of need. In this video, Eduardo Ortiz shares how the team at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is applying human-centered-design to best meet the needs of the public.

Eduardo F. Ortiz is a creative director at the United States Digital Service at the Department of Homeland Security, and has over 13 years of experience as a software engineer, user experience designer, and a front-end developer.

Ortiz is a co-founder of BKUX, one of the fastest growing design communities in Brooklyn, New York. He is also a local leader for the Interaction Design Association (IxDA) a member-supported organization dedicated to the discipline of interaction design, and a volunteer for the Information Architecture Institute an organization focused with making information clearer and easier to use. He has spoken at past conferences on topics about measuring user experience, empathy, and team building.
