Effective design doesn’t have to be soulless. Whimsy and delight often triumph over bland efficiency. In his talk, David Heasty encourages attendees to break the trance of their daily treadmill by creating beautiful speed bumps.

David Heasty is a co-founder of the Brooklyn-based studio Triboro. With his partner, Stefanie Weigler, the duo attracts a global client base, ranging from innovative start-ups to respected international brands. Recent Triboro projects include a Nike logo for New York City; branding the fashion labels Everlane and BLK DNM; restaurant identities for The Standard Hotels; collaborations with artists such as Ai Weiwei and Blonde Redhead; and publications for MoMA and GQ.

In addition to client work, Heasty teaches design at SVA and conducts personal experiments such as Triboro’s One-Color Subway Map. He has received numerous industry awards including being named one of the ADC Young Guns and Print magazine’s 20 Under 30. Born in Dallas, Heasty studied graphic design at Penn State and began his career working with designer Alexander Gelman.
