Brockett Horne, Briar Levit, Louise Sandhaus, and special guests!

Expanding and preserving graphic design history in our own backyard

Presenters: Brockett Horne, Briar Levit, Louise Sandhaus, and special guests!

Community volunteer moderator: Ryan Gibboney, Juniata College

There are many graphic designers who have been overlooked or forgotten—particularly people of color, indigenous people, and women. Often their work wasn’t recognized as graphic design. Together we can document these missing stories in our local communities before it’s too late. Urgently we need to identify missing contributors to design history, recognize our individual lineages, and capture the stories and work before this rich history of graphic design is lost. Best of all, it can be preserved and shared on The People’s Graphic Design Archive (PGDA).

This session will include:

– Outline of the design emergency

– A brief walk-thru of the PGDA: What it is, what it includes, and how it works –

Case studies of documenting local history

– Locating “at risk” history

– Mini lessons on conducting oral histories and documenting work

– How to add to the PGDA (It’s easy!!)

– Q&A
