  • Sam Teague commented on the article "Where are the Black Designers?"

I've been designing for a awhile and I love it. As I embarked upon my design career, I did notice that there weren't many black designers at the seminars and workshops that I attended and even less at the studios and agencies. Even after researching, there were only a few black designers that I found throughout history. I believe that it all comes down to knowing what options you have as an artist. In the black community art/design isn't something taken too seriously or nutured and most of the times lot of talented artists don't get the opportunity to explore their talents to their fullest. Many black kids don't know what the design industry has to offer them. Careers like packaging design, storyboarding, concept art or motion graphics are never discussed. So, I believe that it is a culture thing. Now I'm sure that my parents would have wanted me to become an athlete and so they totally overlooked my artistic skills and focused mainly sports but luckily for me, I didn't. Finally point, I believe that it is my duty as a designer to share what I have learned and inspire those who will come after me. #aigatogether
