Amir Berbic is a graphic designer specializing in typography, editorial, book and poster design. Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he emigrated to Chicago in the early 1990’s where he completed his studies and worked as a designer for local art and culture magazines, and micro-publications. He holds a BFA in Graphic Design from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MFA in Visual Communication from the School of The Art Institute of Chicago.

For nearly ten years, Amir Berbic has taught design at the American University of Sharjah, College of Architecture, Art and Design, in the United Arab Emirates. In 2014, he joined the faculty at the University of Illinois at Chicago's School of Design, as an Associate Professor of Graphic Design. Amir’s research interests are in place identity, dimensional typography, cross-disciplinary practices, and design pedagogy. His work engages a range of media, including print and digital, 3D work, and photography.

Amir has practiced design in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. His design and writing have been featured in several academic and professional publications, conferences, and exhibitions including Print, Design Issues, ICOGRADA World Design Congress, AIGA Design Educators Conference, TypeCon, the Hyperlinks exhibition at the museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, and many others.
