Sean Adams, serving as contestant mentor, checks in on the contestants as they tackle their second challenge at the Command X workstation, offering advice and pearls of wisdom. The five remaining contestants—Spencer Charles, Wendy Hu, Susan Murphy, Jesse Reed and Sarah Sawtell—then present their solutions: redesigns of the Arizona Iced Tea cans with the goal of making the brand look like a unified family of beverages. Michael Bierut returns as emcee and our panel of judges—Ellen Lupton, curator of contemporary design, Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum; DJ Stout, partner, Pentagram; and Michael Vanderbyl, founder, Vanderbyl Design—is joined by designer and author Chip Kidd.
About Command X
Command X, produced by Emily Oberman and Bonnie Siegler of Number Seventeen and hosted by Michael Bierut of Pentagram, is a design reality show that takes place at the biennial AIGA Design Conference, in which seven emerging designers, all under the age of 26, complete challenges and present their solutions live on stage in front of 1, 500 peers, heroes and potential employers. Throughout the intense three days of competition, Sean Adams of Adams Morioka acts as our very own “Tim Gunn” contestant mentor.
