Michael Lejeune is creative director for Metro, the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority. Metro’s 30-person Creative Services group creates award-winning core communications elements for the nation’s third-largest transit agency, including advertising, environmental graphics, timetables, maps, customer information, bus and rail fleet design, web and mobile presence and merchandising. For the past ten years, Metro’s communications work has been a critical component in successfully winning new riders and new funding. Prior to joining Metro, Michael was Project Director at KBDA, the design and branding studio in West Los Angeles, where he managed projects for Acura, Nike, 3Com, UCLA and Hilton Hotels. He is a graduate of the AIGA “Business Perspectives for Design Leaders” program, a past president of AIGA’s Los Angeles chapter and is currently co-chairing AIGA’s Centennial committee.
Alissa Walker writes about design, architecture, cities, transportation and walking for many publications, including Fast Company, Dwell, Wired and the LA Weekly, and is the associate producer for the KCRW public radio show “DnA:
Design and Architecture.” In 2010 Alissa was named a USC Annenberg/Getty
Arts Journalism Fellow for her writing on design and urbanism, and in
2011 she was awarded an ArtPlace grant for the initiative GOOD Ideas for Cities,
where creatives are assigned urban problems proposed by city leaders,
and present their solutions at lively public forums. Alissa lives in the
Silver Lake neighborhood of L.A., where she throws ice cream socials,
tends to a drought-tolerant garden, rides a Creamsicle-colored Public
bike, writes infrequently on her blog, Gelatobaby, and relishes life in L.A. without a car.
