Filmed on October 9, 2015 at the 2015 AIGA Design Conference.
The largely unknown Alice Guy-Blaché was a true pioneer in cinema and the first woman film director and studio owner. In 1896 at the age of 23 Alice became one of the first to make fiction films, exploring new technologies and the birth of a new form of entertainment. The team behind this fascinating feature documentary shares how they uncovered the mysteries of the earliest years of Alice’s career through detective work and findings—period articles, correspondence, photographs—and how they used design, animation, infographics, and storytelling to recreate her world.
