    I think it gives clients a great peace of mind to see certifications in certain processes related to design. I think this could apply in more technical fields like web design and user experience. A complaint I often hear is that a designer was too preoccupied with making something pretty and then it didn't perform. Certifications could alleviate those type of concerns. I think a portfolio will give adequate indication of skill level in things like layout and typography and a certification only serves to exclude people who struggle to get the resources to break in at a novice level.
