Through member surveys, conversations with stakeholders and conference sessions, AIGA has been examining the role of annual design competitions. AIGA Executive Director Ric Grefé explains the thinking behind new programs and competition structures. 

Charles T. Coiner, an acclaimed painter and art director for advertising agency A.W. Ayer & Son, introduced modern art to American advertising and showed that innovative graphic design could effectively address the needs of the U.S. government. In 2004, he was awarded an AIGA Medal.
