NEW YORK—July 1, 2013. AIGA, the professional association for design, is hosting a new exhibition called “Estrada: Sailing through design” opening July 17 in New York. Featuring the work of Manuel Estrada, one of the most important designers in Spain, the exhibition focuses on his working process as documented in visual diaries.
“Estrada: Sailing through design” arrives at the AIGA National Design Center following a successful tour through Helsinki, Berlin, Lisbon and Miami. It reveals Estrada’s creative process through ideas, perceptions and first sketches. Visitors will be able to explore his award-winning work from initial idea to final design, seeing the stages in between where concepts and shapes change until reaching a conceptual, contextual and formal result.
The exhibition is also a journey through Spanish culture. Estrada, who has primarily devoted himself to corporate identity and editorial design, has worked for some of the most significant cultural institutions and companies in Spain, including Línea Madrid and Bibliometro projects for the city of Madrid, corporate identities for international companies like Repsol, and literary work such as the Cervantes Prize brand, design of gastronomy magazine Spain Gourmetour and illustrations for books by Nobel Prize–winning author José Saramago. Through Estrada’s designs, we encounter the writers, institutions and events that are at the core of contemporary Spanish life.
“Estrada: Sailing through design” will be on view from July 17 through October 11 at the AIGA National Design Center, located at 164 Fifth Avenue in New York City. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public.

visual diaries, which he uses to register his working process including ideas, perceptions and first sketches.
New York—September 9, 2014. Today AIGA, the professional
association for design, announced the 2014 results of the “Justified:
AIGA Design Competition.” Design firms, in-house design departments,
design entrepreneurs and freelance designers submitted nearly 750 design
projects, making this the most competitive year for AIGA’s annual
design competition. After careful and considered review, the jury
recognized 19 submissions that successfully demonstrate the value of
design based on craft, methodology, execution and impact.

NEW YORK—July 1, 2014. Today five board members and a new presidents council representative join the national board of directors
for AIGA, the professional association for design, following a national
search. Ken Carbone, John Luu, Christopher Simmons, Jill Spaeth, Paul Wharton and Elysia Syriac join the national board, and Su Mathews Hale has been elected to the president-elect position.
After much discussion throughout the entire design community, the national board
approved the sale of AIGA’s building in New York City. At this pivotal point in our history, the board
adopted a revised strategic framework which articulates four strategic focuses for the organization and outlines the process and timeline for funding decisions.
