Throughout Hispanic Heritage Month, Latinx and Hispanic Creatives will share their culture, contributions, and best practices to move design forward

New York, NY—Today, AIGA, the professional association for design, is pleased to announce a new series of Hispanic Heritage Talks for 2021. AIGA Unidos, a multi-chapter collaboration creating a space to empower and celebrate the lives, work, stories, and needs of creatives with a Latinx and Hispanic cultural heritage, will host several events throughout Hispanic Heritage Month beginning with a discussion on the diverse paths of design careers on Thursday, September 16.

From September 15 through October 15, Latinx and Hispanic creatives from different backgrounds and disciplines will convene to share their stories, their work, and celebrate their culture. These talks are free and open to everyone and will feature creatives from different backgrounds and disciplines via Instagram lives and Zoom webinars.

AIGA Unidos organizer and AIGA Atlanta chapter co-President, Dio Jensen said: “We are excited to share this year’s lineup for Hispanic Heritage Talks (HHT) and to offer a platform for Hispanic and Latinx creatives to share their stories and practices with the world. Our group was created because we believe in representation. When young creatives see our amazing Hispanic and Latinx speakers, we hope that they will be inspired and affirmed in their careers and aspirations. Be sure to join us in these free virtual talks which we have carefully curated for you!”

The speakers range from diverse creative disciplines, such as type designers, illustrators, marketers, educators, and ideators. Virtual talk topics range from Global Health, the Intersection of Teaching and Design to Latino Design Histories: Design and Political Resistance in Chile: Posters from the military dictatorship. You can view the full schedule of Talks here.

“Amplifying these amazing Latinx and Hispanic voices and careers from different backgrounds and disciplines across the design community is very exciting! Showing tomorrow’s designers what’s possible in this industry and cultivating the next group of design leaders is what keeps me passionate about this project,” said AIGA Unidos organizer and AIGA San Antonio Board Operations Director, Anthony Welborn.

The Hispanic Heritage Talks 2021 is a multi-chapter effort highlighting Latinx and Hispanic professionals who are part of their creative communities across the United States and abroad.

It’s critical to actively acknowledge and invest in diverse designers who are the future of the design community, and are moving the profession forward,” said AIGA’s Executive Director, Bennie F. Johnson. “We’re excited to have AIGA’s chapters working together to celebrate and highlight designers from within our community for Hispanic Heritage Month.”
