Frank Baseman is the principal of Baseman Design Associates, an
award-winning, interdisciplinary graphic design firm providing visual
communication services to a variety of corporations and institutions. He
is also an associate professor in the Graphic Design Communication
program at Philadelphia University, where he has taught since 1998. In
2007, he was awarded the Innovation in Teaching Award from Philadelphia
Prior to starting Baseman Design Associates, Baseman was an art
director at Philadelphia Magazine. He has also worked as a senior
designer/art director with Walter Bernard and Milton Glaser, and the
Bernhardt Fudyma Design Group in New York. A native of Philadelphia, he
earned a BA in graphic design from Pennsylvania State University and an
MFA in graphic design from the Tyler School of Art of Temple University.
Frank Baseman has served on the national board of directors of AIGA
(2003–2006), and he was the founding chair of the steering committee for
the AIGA Design Education community of interest (2001–2006). He was
co-chair of “Revolution: Philadelphia,” a national AIGA Design Education
conference (2005), and he is a co-curator of “The Graphic Imperative:
International Posters for Peace, Social Justice and the Environment,
1965–2005,” a traveling exhibition of 40 years of sociopolitical
posters. In 2008, AIGA Philadelphia named him as a Fellow.
The work of Baseman Design Associates has received recognition from
numerous national and international communication organizations, design
exhibitions and publications.

Mike Parker, a legendary typographer, type designer, and historian, died Sunday night at the age of 85. Over 50 years in a dramatically shifting landscape, he designed and shepherded the development of more than 1,100 typefaces—most notably the modernist standby Helvetica.
