When You Don't Vote...

Chapter New Orleans
Description There are fewer symbols which represent the United States better than its flag. Its elements are at the same time historic and contemporary in what they mean to every citizen. Since it so forcefully represents the totality of the populace, when the members of the populace refuse to take part in the election process, the flag which represents them is in some very real ways torn apart. The stars which represent them are no longer firmly in place. The stripes which represent the honor and sacrifice of our heritage are tattered by apathy no less than by the battles that have been fought under it. When anyone doesn't vote, all of us are lessened thereby.
