    Designer, theorist and publisher William Drenttel (1953–2013) is recognized with the AIGA Medal for advancing critical thinking about design; for his long-standing commitment to integrating design strategy into organizations; for expanding design’s role in social innovation; and for his work as cofounder, editor and publisher of Design Observer.

    Designer, educator and writer Jessica Helfand is recognized with the AIGA Medal as an incisive critic, a pioneer in design practice and education, and an innovator of new forms of visual narrative—and for her work as cofounder of Design Observer.

    This video by dress code, which was supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Artspremiered in April 2013 at “Bright Lights: The AIGA Awards Gala,” in New York City, where Drenttel and Helfand were each presented with the award.
