Will you be our Valentine?
As this marks our 2-year anniversary of Drinks x Design, we are
rekindling our dedication to the design community at one of the
first venues that we began our monthly gathering for creative
class. At this event, we will be offering a complimentary signature
drink courtesy of Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry. Quantities
are limited so be sure to arrive early!
Just because it is a Hallmark Holiday does not mean that we
would consider taking a break from keeping you in the loop about
creative spaces in the city. Woodbridge Pub Owner, Jim Geary, has
some new developments in the works. Join us and take a closer look
(just how close will depend on the weather) at the northwest corner
of Trumbull and Merrick. The Woodbridge Community Garden and ?The
Shack? will look much different in the months to come. We will take
you in at the ground level and talk about some of the new projects
that are in the works. In case you have not heard, The Shack will
be the home of Detroit Bike City, and will be a full-service and
retail bicycle shop about this time next year.
We ask that you do not bring drinks from Woodbridge Pub to The
Shack or the Woodbridge Community Garden.
21 and up are welcome.
Street parking is available on Trumbull and on Merrick.

A letter from Woodbridge Pub Founder, Jim Geary:
?In December 2006 the corner of Trumbull and Merrick was just
another bleak and blighted eyesore, littered with trash, broken
bottles and graffiti. In a city so full of such corners it didn't
draw much attention. It took some vision, and possibly a bit of
insanity, to see through all the faults and recognize the potential
cornerstone that could anchor our beautiful Woodbridge neighborhood
for years to come.
After being virtually abandoned for twenty-five years, the
building [that is now home to Woodbridge Pub] was rough to say the
least. I lovingly restored it using salvaged materials everywhere
possible. The larger than life bar is constructed from 1890s Oak,
salvaged from the stairs and vestibule of a Saginaw, MI church. The
back bar from doors and trim taken from a Saline, MI farmhouse
slated for demolition. The beautiful hand carved 1906 Oak ?Butcher
Boy? refrigerator was salvaged from an old butcher shop on Lumpkin
in Hamtramck and converted into the men's bathroom. These
repurposed items represent in many ways my feelings about Detroit.
Being old, they reflect the historic character of the homes in the
Woodbridge neighborhood and having been given new life; they
symbolize the rebirth that Detroit is gradually
realizing.?
