Part of “Industry Insights: Career Development Webinars,” a members-only series created by AIGA and Aquent
Originally recorded on Wednesday, December 12, 2012When it comes to launching a new consumer
product, traditional graphic design and branding firms are typically invited to
the table only when it's time to launch. As a design firm employing consumer
insights experts, product engineers, industrial designers, graphic
designers and branding teams, Motiv has established itself as a critical player in
early stages of new product development, and throughout the lifetime of a
product.Hear about Motiv’s work with established
brands and new startups in consumer home products. Learn how asking the right
questions before a product is developed can help create a holistic brand
experience throughout a product’s life cycle. See how low-tech approaches such
as Lego bricks can help stimulate dialogue about user experience and product
function. Discuss what it takes for a small firm to earn big respect and
develop long-term client partnerships. And join the team as they take us on a brief virtual tour of their Boston studio.
Only AIGA members can view recorded webinars webinars. (Not yet a member? Join today.)
As Motiv’s director
of brand expression, Matthew Bacon has more than 20 years of marketing and
design experience working with highly regarded brands and
institutions to bring simplicity and logic to complex communications
challenges. Since starting with Motiv in 2004, Matthew has been instrumental in
leading the branding and graphic design activities for Keurig, Kohler,
KitchenAid and Vitamix. Throughout his career, he has brought strategic
design sense, attention to detail and a background in writing to a
wide range of communications for clients such as McDonald’s, Sprint, Sony and
Maytag. Matthew is board president of AIGA Boston, and he sits on the board of
governors for the Human Rights Campaign.
Steffen Koury is the director of product development at Motiv. He has 15 years of experience in

from the College for Creative Studies. He has received numerous Good Design awards and holds more than 116 design patents.

Design and Architecture.” In 2010 Alissa was named a USC Annenberg/Getty
Arts Journalism Fellow for her writing on design and urbanism, and in
2011 she was awarded an ArtPlace grant for the initiative GOOD Ideas for Cities,
where creatives are assigned urban problems proposed by city leaders,
and present their solutions at lively public forums. Alissa lives in the
Silver Lake neighborhood of L.A., where she throws ice cream socials,
tends to a drought-tolerant garden, rides a Creamsicle-colored Public
bike, writes infrequently on her blog, Gelatobaby, and relishes life in L.A. without a car.
