I too have some questions on agency start up advice...stories...pitfalls - any concepts or threads that deal with this specifically?

Does anyone actually use this forum, or what? I love the idea. I have tons of questions I want to ask of the collective experience that visits this site. But I'm afraid I will just be talking into a vacuum.

I am wondering how this last year in school will be like... and how long it will take for me to find a decent job

Don't feel you have to achieve everything in your first year out. It's definitely a tough environment but in some ways I think that can be more rewarding. Don't be afraid to get your name out there by interning, freelancing, doing personal projects.

DO think about where you want to live after college, then where you want to work. DO network with your family and friends and ask around for job openings. DO make a PDF portfolio for people interested in seeing your work. You'll get their name and email address for delivery—your first foot in the door. DO make yourself a nice invoice form for freelance projects (Nick's right) and use it! DO consider working for small shops who will teach you the ins-and-outs of the design business. DO continue reading about design and pickup a used Graphic Artist's Guild "Pricing and Ethical Guidelines" book for reference. DO visit your college's career placement office. DO have confidence you're a rock star. And lastly, DO good work and be nice!

It'd be awesome if we could add some wysiwyg or commenting tools to this like line-breaks, links, images etc. Also, I want a longer comment box so I can read my whole post! Good start though :-)

I was wondering what an average and acceptable rate or fee us to charge a client for a postcard to be updated with relevant information quarterly. A real estate agent asked me to design an informational post card and I am unsure of what to charge. Suggestions are appreciated.
