Payment by wire transfer (requiring I share my account and routing numbers). Yes? No? Only with ID? Other conditions?

I would be very cautious of sharing that type of information. I would propose to the client that they use PayPal, which accomplishes the same thing as a wire transfer, but you only need to send them your email address.

You have to share that info for the client to wire you payments. There may be a fee involved, too. Why not accept a credit card over the phone with the Square App for iPhone? PayPal is another good option. Checks are great, too!

Wire transfer is extremely common in Europe. As a matter of fact, most business is conducted that way. It's not any different than setting up automatic payments with a business where they make automatic deductions from your bank account and you have to provide your check routing number. It's usually very safe assuming you're dealing with a reputable business. When in doubt, call your bank and ask some specific questions as to how wire transfers work, what are the fees (which will be higher for international customers), and what not to do. Good luck!

I'm in need of some advice. What would you say is an appropriate amount for a usage fee of your work? If someone wanted to display something you designed in their building, what amount do you think would be appropriate?

Can someone explain to me in simpler English what rule 3.1 in the AIGA code actually means? Thanks a million.

Much as I love graphic design, I’m really disappointed in the way it played out for me as a profession. Supposedly, if you follow your passion, success and money will come. But after thirty years of employment as an art director, I didn’t get either one. If I could have gotten one of those “dream jobs” working at Pentagram, Landor or some other high profile design firm, I would have said, “Wow, graphic design is the bomb.” But I ended up making mediocre books for a mass-market publisher. Now I have 15+ years to do something with my career and I’m thinking that if this is the best I can get, then I need to find something other than graphic design. It really kills me to come in every day and make make the worst possible design. Can anyone identify with creative burnout?
