Image, Space, Object: An inspiring week of learning, interaction and creation.

A Rocky Mountain/High Ground Workshop in partnership with AIGA.
Denver, Colorado, August 7-13, 2004

Image, Space, Object is a unique workshop where designers of all disciplines come together to learn collaborative methods and develop new design languages for compelling physical and communication experiences.

The workshop is being developed by Katherine and Michael McCoy with Fred Murrell of Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design in partnership with AIGA. Participants will learn—and actually practice—effective collaborative methods for researching and conceiving the whole design experience including visual communications, interactive media, exhibit and signage design, interior design and environmental design, furniture and object design, and brand planning.

In this five day intensive personal creative experience you will receive methods and inspiration from world-renowned presenters and put this into practice in the afternoon studio sessions.

Morning presentations by top designers, strategists and educators will give participants the tools to apply in the project assignments. Participants will take home copious documentation of the methods presented in the workshop.

In the afternoons, small interdisciplinary teams will work on their assignments in the RMCAD studio facilities. The studio masters will mentor the teams and individuals during studio sessions.

The assignments will be structured for group interaction as well as individual design exploration. The teams will work on the conceptual design of a public space including visual communications and interactive electronic experience with furniture and fixtures and space design. They will use methods integrating narrative and scenario development, design language analysis and innovative presentation techniques. The teams will present their concepts for critique and discussion by the faculty on the final studio day.

The lectures and studio sessions will take place on the charming and unique campus of Rocky Mountain College of Art & Design, 10 minutes west of downtown Denver. The campus enhances team interaction and personal creativity with its well-equipped, spacious studios and wireless internet environment.

The evenings are for socializing, special presentations and interaction in some of Denver's most intriguing cultural venues. Denver is emerging as a world class urban environment with exciting warehouse loft districts and advanced architecture by Daniel Libeskind and Michael Graves.

The week will end with spectacular high mountain recreation, including rafting, biking and hiking, and drinks and barbecue at the McCoy's High Ground Studio high in the heart of the Rockies.

This workshop is for all designers—graphic, interactive experience, signage, exhibition, furniture, object, interior, and architectural—who want to learn how to effectively work together to create compelling experiences, communications, spaces and objects.

Nonmembers $1,450

The registration fee includes light breakfasts and lunches throughout the workshop plus four evening events with hors d'oeuvres and drinks. The Buena Vista barbecue is also included in the registration fee, but participants will make their own travel arrangements to Buena Vista and also arrange for local accommodations on their own.

Cancellation policy: There will be a $100 fee for cancellations made prior to July 1, 2004. AIGA will refund 50 percent of conference fees paid for cancellations made between July 1 and July 31, 2004. No refunds will be available after July 31.
