Join Peter Kirn for an introductory workshop on the Processing programming language! Expressing design through code can mean greater creative freedom, but programming can be intimidating to the uninitiated.
The open-source platform Processing is a revelation, making programming more accessible to those new to code and providing refreshing simplicity to those with more experience. Its visually-focused capabilities for working with drawing, images, media, and interaction, coupled with elegant, direct syntax can make "sketching" with code a real possibility. The tool has now become an essential part of learning, prototyping, and visualizing among digital designers.
This workshop will explore not only the basics of Processing, but how those fundamentals can influence creative thinking and experimentation. We'll also explore how you can share code and even sketch collaboratively across a network.
This is a 4 hour workshop with a 1/2 hour break in between; geared towards beginners to learn processing.
Please bring your own laptop and download processing for free at: processing.org

Post event party open to all! Enjoy an evening of visualists and VJs, producing bleeding-edge performance visual eye candy and playing music and imagery using novel interfaces and techniques. Like early instrument builders, these audiovisual artists are crafting their own tools in code to making digital imagery and music playable in new ways. Meet the artists, see and hear some performances, and relax and mix with fellow digerati and designers.
Hosted by Peter Kirn and createdigitalmotion.com, an international blog and community for live visualists.
