2009 Cumulus International Design Competition: Earthquake Disaster Relief
Cumulus Association and Tongji University, Shanghai, China are honored to open the call for participation for students of design, architecture and media in Design*Inspiring*Humanism 2009, Cumulus International Design Competition for Earthquake Disaster Relief.
Background
The earthquake disaster in China in 2008 triggered countrywide action and mobilized the Government and universities to investigate research and develop necessary solutions, to ensure less damage and loss of life in the future. Many institutions in China and worldwide have offered assistance in different areas both in financial aid and in real projects. Many complete school projects, temporary and permanent accommodation shelters have been created and still, a lot is under construction. There are a number of general areas which can be considered, each with a subdivision of specific project opportunities. None is more important than the other.

The Award
The competition results will be announced on April 10, 2009
- One golden selection: prize of 50,000 RMB, certificate and remembrance
- Two silver selections: prize of 10,000 RMB, certificate and remembrance
- Five copper selections: prize of 3,000 RMB, certificate and remembrance
- Twelve honorable mentions: Certificate and remembrance
Celebration and Exhibition
The award celebration will be held on May 12th in Du Jiangyan, Si Chuan province, China. An international exhibition is planned to be organized in Shanghai and London in May 2009 during Cumulus conference and further in Milan, Paris, and Helsinki in June 2009
