AIGA Member Portfolios are moving!

This fall, AIGA’s member portfolios are moving to a new platform hosted by the Behance Network. This transition reflects AIGA’s commitment to providing professional tools for designers to develop their practice, in this case by promoting themselves and their work in an extensive network, with a clear designation as belonging to the professional association for design.

By being part of the AIGA Behance network, you’ll:

Gain broader exposure for your portfolio.
Your work will be shown both on the AIGA-branded site and in the broader Behance Network that receives millions of visitors per month. In the latter, your profile will be marked with the AIGA logo, indicating current membership status.
Be found by employers and recruiters.
Keyword search is built into the Behance system, meaning that you can tag individual pieces and portfolios with the keywords employers, recruiters, editors, and industry leaders use to find and hire top talent.
Connect with like-minded designers and potential partners.
Behance gives you the ability to create communities through projects, collaborate with other creative minds, and solicit constructive feedback on current and past projects in your portfolio.
Showcase your work in a professional atmosphere.
Build a multimedia portfolio with an unlimited number of projects, with the ability to show your portfolio in a “frame view” version as a simple, stripped-down gallery of your work to send to clients.

FAQs

Q: What will the AIGA version look like?
While we can’t show you the AIGA site yet (it’s currently in development), we can point you to a virtual tour on the larger Behance site.

Q: When is this happening?
We expect to begin testing in October 2009. Contact us if you’d like to participate in the beta testing to get early access and provide feedback on the process.

Q: Why is this happening?
This transition is one of many currently in progress on the AIGA website. Some will be more transparent to members than this one, but the intended end result is to provide more opportunities for contributions to—and participation in—a variety of areas of the site. This new portfolio system will be among the first areas to provide more ways to engage with fellow members.

Q: What happens to my current AIGA Member Portfolio on the Design Jobs site?
Existing portfolios in Design Jobs will not be available after the end of the year. We’ll contact everyone who currently has a portfolio this fall to provide instructions for making the transition as smooth as possible. In order to take advantage of the new resources on the Behance network, though, you’ll need to invest a little time.

Q: What happens to my portfolio if I don’t renew my AIGA membership?
We’d love it if you were a lifetime member of AIGA, but we understand that sometimes things don’t work out. If your membership has expired, your portfolio will no longer show up as part of the AIGA portfolio network, but it will remain on the Behance Network—just without the AIGA logo marking you as a member. When you reinstate your AIGA membership, your portfolio will be re-introduced into the AIGA portfolio network so that you can enjoy the benefits of inclusion in the site.
