leadershipretreat.aiga.org

The registration deadline is just a little more than a week away—Friday, April 25! Also, remember that you must reserve your hotel room at the Embassy Suites by Thursday, May 8.

To register, to see who else is coming and to make travel arrangements, visit leadershipretreat.aiga.org.

The Leadership Retreat is a great opportunity for attendees to connect with other leaders from across the country, share ideas and information, build leadership skills, develop a strong sense of community and return home with renewed energy and passion. Here are just a few highlights of what is planned:

Icebreaker at the Nomad Lounge
Thursday, May 29
6:00–8:30 p.m.

In Omaha, AIGA begins a new tradition for opening night. To introduce yourself to fellow attendees, concoct a memorable outfit that represents your chapter. No skits, but the idea is for your chapter’s contingent to have a strong, cohesive visual impact as you mix and mingle. Think hoola skirts and coconuts; Milton Glaser’s “I Love NY” t-shirts; Amish attire. Be creative!

At the Nomad Lounge, you will also engage in fast-paced speed-networking, where you will get to know your fellow attendees a little better... and maybe a little more than you expected!

Guest speaker, Tom Trenolone, architect, HDR Architecture, Inc. and founder, Design Alliance Omaha (daOMA)
Friday, May 30

daOMA pools its resources to attract high profile, cross-disciplinary speakers that appeal to a wide audience in Omaha. AIGA Nebraska and daOMA often collaborate with the common goal of increasing awareness and appreciation of good design in the community. Tom Trenolone will explain this mutually beneficial relationship and offer a little taste of Omaha design flavor!

Great responses to frequently asked questions
All chapter leaders face the same couple of questions at some point in their tenure: “How do I best describe AIGA to others?”; “How can I persuade others to join?”; “How can we ensure that members and potential members feel welcome and engaged?” Several times during our days together, we will ask you to work within small groups to develop great responses to these questions. By building on your unique insight and experiences, these group activities will leave you equipped with the clear answers and solid action plans you need to serve your chapter as a strong and effective leader in the AIGA community.

Evening at Joslyn Art Museum, sponsored by Adobe
Friday, May 30
8:00–10:00 p.m.

On Friday evening, Adobe, the presenting sponsor of the retreat, will host a reception at Joslyn Art Museum, Nebraska’s largest and most distinguished art museum. Inside this Art Deco building, enjoy the collection of works from antiquity to contemporary art and take part in the festivities with fellow AIGA leaders.

We are still looking for one more qualified moderator for the PR breakout session. If you are interested, send an email to Michelle Stanek.
