At “Next: AIGA Design Conference,”
Kurt Andersen is your guide to three days of community, insight and discourse
as AIGA explores what’s next in great design.
| The host and co-creator of the Peabody
Award–winning public radio show “Studio 360,” Andersen
also writes a column about culture and politics for New York
magazine. He co-founded Spy and Inside.com, and served as
editor-in-chief of New York and Colors magazines.
In addition to writing the critically acclaimed novels Turn of
the Century, a national bestseller, and Heyday, he has
been a cultural columnist for The New Yorker and Time,
as well as Time’s architecture critic. |
 |
Andersen’s connections to popular culture and the creative community
bring a unique perspective to his role as moderator of “Next.”
Don’t miss this exceptional opportunity to learn from and enjoy
Andersen’s observations and insight!
Who else will you get the chance to hear from, talk to and rub shoulders
with at “Next?” Here are just a few:
Marian Bantjes, illustrator and designer will share her
“unexpected nextness”—that point of suspension between
the past and the future where we sit wrapped in memory, poised in anticipation
of the unknown. Desire and imagination cause us to leap ahead, while reality
trips us with unexpected turns of fate.
David Ford and Tom Pollock of Metafore,
Lewis Fix of Domtar EarthChoice and Anthony Russell
of Russell Design will help you make informed environmental choices about
paper. Your paper’s footprint extends far beyond the forest. How
it is made, what it is used for and where it goes after it is used also
determine the environmental impacts of paper. This session will explore
these impacts and address key questions graphic designers ask about the
papers they choose.
Allan Haley of Monotype Imaging will host the ever-popular
2007 AIGA Typography Quiz! Can you pick Garamond out of a crowd? Been
around the typographic block a few times? Then you’re ready to take
the 2007 AIGA Typography Quiz. Say you've taken the quiz before? It won’t
help. Allan has all new questions and even more rewarding prizes! And,
if you know your typographic stuff, there is also a varsity challenge
with the grand prize of a complete Monotype font library—and “Typophile
of the Year” bragging rights. There will also be prizes for the
“Typographic Aficionado” and “Typographically Clueless.”
