Digital 365: AIGA Year in Design 30 serves as entry point to archives

In an effort to address issues of sustainability, economics and reach, the design annual 365: AIGA Year in Design 30 was published digitally this week. Designed by Omnivore, the new format serves as an entry point and companion to the upgraded AIGA Design Archives—the largest online collection of design excellence.

Vote for new directors on AIGA's board

Vote for new directors on AIGA’s board

A member-based nominating committee has recommended a slate of five nominees to serve on the AIGA national board of directors: Gaby Brink, Phil Hamlett, Deanna Kuhlmann-Leavitt, Santiago Piedrafita and Robin Tooms. Consistent with the AIGA bylaws, the proposed slate is submitted to the membership for adoption; all professional-level members should vote online by March 15.

Winterhouse award

Enter your writing to win a Winterhouse award

For the fifth year, AIGA co-presents the Winterhouse Awards for Design Writing and Criticism. A $10,000 award will go to a professional writer for a body of work, while $1,000 will go to a student demonstrating exceptional ability. Learn about this year’s jury and guidelines, and prepare to submit your best writing about design. The call for entries is open from March 1 through June 1.

Confidence Index

Design leaders anticipate economic recovery

Results of AIGA’s Design Leaders Confidence Index for the fourth quarter of 2009 indicate strong confidence in an economic recovery. The index held at 98, up from 51 in October 2008 and consistent with designers’ attitudes during 2005–2007.

Set up your new portfolio by February 28

If you still have a Design Jobs portfolio, be sure to move it over to the AIGA Member Gallery by February 28, when all Design Jobs portfolios must come down. Although there is no way to automatically transfer your Design Jobs portfolio to the new AIGA Member Gallery, once your new portfolio is set up, you can use built-in networking tools to help announce your new URL to clients and colleagues.
