AIGA
awards 2008 Medal to Anderson, Mok and Winbush
Gail
Anderson, Clement Mok and LeRoy Winbush have been individually
awarded the 2008 AIGA Medal, the highest honor bestowed by
the profession. The three Medalists will be celebrated at the
Design Legends Gala on September 18 in New York City.

Vote
now for new directors on AIGA’s board
A
member-based nominating committee has recommended a slate of
nominees to serve on the national board for the term beginning
July 2008 and ending June 2011. Consistent with the bylaws, the
proposed slate of Stanley Hainsworth, Elva Rubio, Khoi Vinh, Brad Weed and Pamela Williams is submitted
to the full professional membership for adoption. All professional-level
members should vote online by Friday, March 14.

for Democracy: Ballot and Election Design sent to U.S.
Senators and Representatives

has sent copies of Marcia Lausen’s Design for Democracy:
Ballot and Election Design to all Members of Congress. By
putting this relevant design advocacy tool in the hands of lawmakers,
AIGA promotes design awareness at the highest levels of government.

“Business
Perspectives for Creative Leaders” scheduled for Yale
in July
AIGA’s
highly regarded business school executive education program has
been scheduled for the week of July 27–August 1, at Yale School
of Management. After five years at Harvard Business School, AIGA
has developed an even more effective program, driven by the intimate
setting of the Yale School of Management and its commitment to
innovation and creativity. Participants will learn from and work
with world-class thinkers, scholars and accomplished faculty.

Participate
in democracy: Vote and take pictures for the Polling Place
Photo Project
AIGA
has partnered with The New York Times to continue the
2006 project to create a visual chronicle of the election process
nationwide. Get those cameras ready and document democracy in
action. This project will extend through the general election
in November.

AIGA
signs on to Designers Accord
AIGA
has recently endorsed the Designers Accord, a coalition of design
and innovation firms focused on creating positive environmental
and social impact. The Designers Accord asks members to evaluate
sustainable alternatives in design and to engage clients in that
dialogue. The coalition commits members to exchanging their experiences
and pooling their resources for a greater cause.

selections from the AIGA archives are now online
The
National Endowment for the Arts awarded AIGA a grant to support
the digitization of exhibition catalogues from the institution’s
archives. The exhibition catalogues document selections from
AIGA’s annual juried competitions since 1925. Thanks to their
support, AIGA Design Archives now includes more than 13,000 selections.
Represented is the best work in communication design and strategy
since 1968. Visit the archives at designarchives.aiga.org to
identify trends, seek inspiration and share your favorites.

New
stamps recognizing Charles and Ray Eames
Over
the past ten years, AIGA has worked with Terry McCaffrey, AIGA
DC Fellow and manager of stamp services at the United States
Postal Service, to place AIGA members on the Citizens Advisory
Committee on stamp design. The designs over this period have
benefited from the involvement of AIGA Medalist Meredith Davis
(and previously, Bradbury Thompson); currently, AIGA members Sylvia Harris, Jessica Helfand and Maruchi
Santana among 16 members on the committee. Charles and Ray
Eames will be recognized this summer with a pane of 16 stamps
designed by Derry Noyes of Washington, D.C.
