Design for Democracy

Design for Democracy and AIGA members influence election design across the United States

In July, AIGA Nebraska’s Drew Davies took part in the annual conference of the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers, sharing the stage with a Texas election official who had successfully applied Design for Democracy’s top 10 election design guidelines to state election forms.

In other Design for Democracy news, Sarrah Elizondo of California is stepping into the role of Oregon’s next Election Design Fellow. The AIGA initiative also kicked off projects to improve election materials in the states of New York and Kansas, the latter in partnership with Willoughby Design of Kansas City.

National board members

Thanks to national board members

On July 1 each year, a third of national board members complete their three-year terms and are replaced with newly elected directors. This year, AIGA gained Julie Beeler, Shelley Evenson, Zia Khan, Jamie Koval, Louise Sandhaus, Angela Shen-Hsieh, Lynda Weinman and Debbie Millman, who will be president for the next two years.
The strength of AIGA has always been the vision and commitment of its volunteer leadership. The departing board members—to whom we extend our gratitude for their efforts the past three years—are Jim Ales, Laurie Churchman, Bennett Peji and Shel Perkins. After years of service in virtually every chapter and national volunteer role, including the past two years as AIGA president, Sean Adams will remain on the board as president emeritus for one year to focus on developing AIGA’s history prior to the 2014 centennial celebration.
