Confidence Index

Design leaders confident about economic rebound

The AIGA Design Leaders Confidence Index for the third quarter of 2009 continued a dramatic rebound from its low point of just a year ago, perhaps reflecting a realization that the current recession has not hurt design practices as much as was feared.

AIGA competition selections now online

Selections from “365: AIGA Annual Design Competition 30” and “50 Books/50 Covers of 2008” are now available on designarchives.aiga.org, where additional images, full credits, project statements and jurors’ comments are also available.

Your work could be in the Design Archives and serve as inspiration for the next generation. Start thinking now about what to enter in the 2010 AIGA competitions before the call for entries goes out December 15!

Aspen Design Challenge outcomes

Aspen Design Summit demonstrates value of design in solving problems

Last month AIGA and Winterhouse Institute held the Aspen Design Summit to gather experts, NGO leaders, funders and designers to propose human-centered solutions to global social problems. Teams came up with transformative and promising solutions that addressed the individual needs of each stakeholder’s cause. The Summit was considered a great success by all involved and helped demonstrate the value of design as a positive means for change.

Living principles for Design

Living Principles presented at Icograda General Assembly

In late October in Beijing, the Icograda General Assembly adopted a resolution on the responsibility of designers to promote sustainable practices and offered The Living Principles for Design as a model framework. Delegates of communication design associations and educators worldwide provided global validation of the opportunities for the framework developed by AIGA members.
